Assenagon appoints Chief Investment Officer Multi Asset

The independent asset manager Assenagon has appointed Thomas Romig as Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Multi Asset as of April 1, 2025. Romig has been responsible for Assenagon's Multi Asset division as Managing Director since 2015. Together with his team of four, he manages the two multi-award-winning multi asset funds, Assenagon Multi Asset Conservative and Assenagon Multi Asset Balanced.

"In his role as Head of Multi Asset Portfolio Management, Thomas has in-depth financial expertise across all asset classes - with outstanding results. He has represented Assenagon to the outside world as a sought-after capital market expert for many years," says Assenagon founder and member of the Board of Directors, Hans Günther Bonk. "Thomas' appointment as Chief Investment Officer Multi Asset will make his responsibility for this area more visible, especially to the outside world," adds Vassilios Pappas, also a founder and member of the Board of Directors of Assenagon.

Decades of expertise across asset classes

Before joining Assenagon in 2015, Thomas Romig was Head of Multi Asset Management at Union Investment. In this position, he was responsible for twelve billion euros in various multi-asset investment strategies. From 2000 to 2009, Romig worked successfully as Head of Multi Management at Allianz Global Investors (AGI). The banking and business administration graduate began his career in asset management at ADIG Investment in 1997 and previously worked in the banking sector for Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and Consorsbank, among others, from 1990. During his career, he obtained the titles DVFA Investment Analyst (CEFA) and Hedge Fund Advisor (EBS/BAI).

Major rating companies such as Morningstar, Lipper, Scope, Citywire, MountainView and FondsConsult have repeatedly recognized the outstanding performance of the funds for which Romig is responsible with international ratings, awards and prizes. Most recently, Romig and his team were also honored by SZ Institut ("Top Mixed Fund 2025") and WirtschaftsWoche ("Best Asset Manager 2025").

"We would like to congratulate Thomas on his appointment as Chief Investment Officer Multi Asset and wish him continued success in this role," said the two founders Bonk and Pappas in unison. Romig and his team will continue to share responsibility for the results of the two Multi Asset flagships in the future.
